Diagnosis and treatment of rare genetic disorders and immune-mediated gastrointestinal dysmotility

Dr. Alessio Rosario Marte’s main field of scientific interest is clinical and molecular research in the area of functional and organic gastrointestinal disorders, neuro-gastroenterology aspects of inflammatory diseases and immune responses associated with systemic pathology. His work integrates the diagnostics of rare genetic diseases, investigation of the gut microbiota in disease pathogenesis, and studies on the role that nutrition and integrated therapies play in modulating said pathogenesis. Each patient is evaluated in a holistic manner and in accordance with the background they grew up in. Such patient evaluation includes both environmental factors in relation to immune system functioning and the brain-gut relationship; the role of psychological factors and the immune system on disease pathogenesis is then analyzed in detail. The approach is both integrative and integrated.

Academic Achievements and Pathologies Treated

Dr. Marte earned a summa cum laude Combined MD-PhD degree in Medicine and Research from Harvard Medical School and specialized in the Combined Experimental Pathway of Neuro-Immuno-Gastroenterology and in Dermatology.

He conducts his outpatient activities in the field of Immunopathology and Digestive Pathophysiology and carries out experimental research on the Microbiota-Gut-Brain Axis and Epigenetic Mechanisms regulating the environment/genome interface applied to Autoimmune and Chronic-Inflammatory Disorders.

He is principal investigator of the diseases:
